ABRAHAM'S OLYMPIC MOMENTS

Picture
February 14th OPENING CEREMONIES: HOPE
There is something wonderful about opening ceremonies. At the Olympics, it is a day of great pageantry and every athlete has high hopes for their event. God showed up in Abraham’s life and gave him a message of hope for not only his life, but for the entire world. Genesis 12

February 21st TORCH: ENDURANCE
Every great Olympic athlete understands that they must endure tremendous sacrifice and pain in order to win the ultimate prize. At times shortcuts seem tempting. Abraham started well, but was tempted to take shortcuts along the way. Today we learn that even when we fail, God will work in us and through us to accomplish His plan. Genesis 15-16, 21; Hebrews 12:1-3

February 28th VICTORY: THE TEST
To make the Olympic team and win the gold medal requires that each athlete passes “tests” along the way. They must compete in “lesser” meets and preliminary heats and show themselves worthy before they can win the gold. Abraham appears close to winning the “gold” and yet God has one final test to confirm his worthiness. Will he pass the test? Genesis 22
